God of War is arguably one of Sony's most successful game franchises and with rumours flying around saying that God of War III is a potential E3 crop up I thought I would give gamers the opportunity to learn of what God of War is about if they don't already know.
Kratos is the brutal protagonsist on which the entire story hangs on. Once a captain of Sparta, he led the world's best fighting force in their skirmishes over the Mediterranean. They were successful in every battle, slaughtering thousands in their wake but now at this stage in time things were about to change. A horde of barbarians led by their king attacked the Spartans. Although the Spartans were twice as skilled, the barbarian army was almost four times the size of the Spartans and so with the advantage of numbers they began to slay every Spartan down to the last man. As many Spartans fell Kratos was forced to the ground by the barbarian king who towered over him, hammer in hand. It was in this desperate time of need that Kratos called out to Ares, the God of War for aid in exchange for his life. Ares descended from the heavens and massacred the horde of barbarians. Kratos owed his life to Ares and was therefore enslaved by him and was forced to carry out Ares' ruthless skirmishes against the lands. It was in one of these skirmishes that Kratos chased fleeing villagers into their temple and cut them all down to the last child. It was seconds after that he saw the faces of his wife and child he had left at Sparta those years ago before he was rendered under Ares' control. Anger took its hold and Kratos broke free of the God's bonds, vowing that he himself, a mortal would bring ruin upon the God of War.
